Destination Travelers Project Overview Presentation COMP 7970 Robbin A. Bibbs & Brandi Smith Auburn University

Project Design Highlights Improvement in Graphic Utilized for final game design vs. initial game design. Improvement in object movement(i.e., Scuba Diver, marine animals). Operations of buttons Overall game design format

Technical Game Design Changes Original Design Final Design Initially screen design format entailed seven screens Airport Scene (Cut Scene) Geographical Facts Screen Photo Album –Moving Pictures Screen Scuba Shop –Shopping Scene – Family would purchase materials and record totals. Final design entailed five screens – realize the complexities involved in designing multiple screens. Scuba Shop Scene was deleted – difficulty inserting totals button and sale prices

Technical Game Design Changes Original Design Final Design Ocean Movement – Underwater Scene Dilemma Scene – underwater Scene Designer Differences in Game Format Differences in Flash Software – Flash MX and Flash Professional 8 Replicating actual ocean movement –fluidity issues. Both designers utilized Flash MX.

Playability Game Design Changes Original Design Final Design Multiple Scuba Divers Underwater Cave Scene Initial play testing session had only 2 screens Underwater fish (i.e., Shark, Eels, ) would shock diver – deducting air points. Underwater fish (i.e., tropical ) would add air points to divers time underwater. One Scuba Diver: Issues with layer- ing objects on same page. Underwater Cave scene was deleted, impact to diver (too Graphic Target group). Difficult y with collision detection of objects – Underwater fish.

Lessons learned from Playtesters Playtester Comments Game Changes Scuba Diver moves too slow. No reaction to diver when they interact with the fish . NO record of Score accumulated or deducted from diver-fish interaction. Need a screen which indicates differences between underwater animals/fish (i.e., Shark and Eel), prior to underwater scene. Kitchen scene and start button. Diver speed increased. Increased size of start button in the kitchen. Included a screen indicating the differences between underwater animals (Shark and Eel).

Game Time Extension Add in the scene that contains geographical information on Vacation Sites. Insert Geographical Map of vacation sites (Hawaii and Bahamas). Include four geographical facts for each map. Insert music appropriate to each geographical location. Create all scenes based on original game design. Create an ending for the game.

What would be Different –Second Time Around? Plan more logically Started with actual game design screens –save time upfront. Utilized a game design software that entailed more visual design.

Game Design Created Story Boards of game format. Inserted graphics Flash MX software used for game design. Created Story Boards of game format. Inserted graphics Imported sound and graphics into the environments. Based games on frame actions.
