“The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” ― Dr. Seuss English Honor’s Summer Project Susie Smith

1) I learned I am allergic to shellfish. While at Ocean City this summer with my family, I tried shrimp for the first time. About twenty minutes later, my lips blew up, my skin broke out in hives. My parents had to take me to the Emergency Room. I received a shot which got rid of my symptoms. I really am disappointed because I enjoyed the taste of the shrimp.

2) I learned not all great things last forever. My best friend since kindergarten, Lucy, told me she was moving to Georgia. I cried for several days. I am not sure how things will be without Lucy, but I do understand that I can’t be sad forever. My mom said that I was luckier than her when her friend moved away because they didn’t have the technology to stay in touch. I know that Lucy and I will text and Skype, so that comforts me a little.

3) I learned that grass grows really fast in the summer! This summer my dad assigned me the job of mowing the grass. It wasn’t too bad the first time and was actually a bit relaxing. Well, it turns out you have to mow the grass at least once a week! It wasn’t all bad; my elderly neighbor asked if I would mow her lawn. By the end of the summer, I had earned $200.00.

4) I learned that if you forget your beach towel on the beach, it might not be there when you go back for it. After a long day playing and swimming on the beach, I decided to go in and shower to get ready for dinner. After my shower I remembered I left my towel outside. I looked out the balcony but didn’t see it. I was really mad thinking someone would steal my towel. My mom looked out and laughed. She said, “ I doubt it was stolen. The tide came in, and I am sure it washed away.” I am glad it was just my towel!

5) I realized that I love being in the marching band. I decided to join the high school marching band. I wanted to make new friends, and I love playing the flute. Practices were hard, and it was so hot marching in the sun! I learned that it takes a lot of concentration to do the choreography and music simultaneously. It was a really friendly group of kids. I know this was a great decision for me.
