What is College Credit Plus?

Opportunity to Earn College Credit College Credit Plus Opportunity to Earn College Credit Grades 7 – 12 College-ready students Many college course options Public colleges are free Private colleges may include small cost Ohio’s new College Credit Plus can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university College Credit Plus is free. That means no cost for tuition, books or fees. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have limited costs. 

Changes for new CCP College readiness determined by college of choice. GPA, test scores Maximum number of credits a student may take has changed to 30 sem. hrs. A college course of 3 sem. hours or greater =1 HS credit.

How are College Credits Equated to High School Credits? College Credit Plus How are College Credits Equated to High School Credits? A 3 hour credit college course or higher = 1 high school credit A 2 hour credit college course will = .66 high school credit A 1 hour credit college course will = .33 high school credit

How Many College Credits Can I Take Through CCP? 1) High School Units You Are Taking 2) Multiply that number by 3 3) Subtract the result from 30 *The result is the total number of college credits you can earn during the entire academic year.

Example: Classes (units) taking at Van Buren = 7 7 X 3 -30 (21) subtracted from 30 = 9 college credits you can earn *Each student will be figured separately and may be eligible for a different number.

College Credit Plus Student Choice Students can choose any course that applies toward a degree or workforce certification at a public (or participating private) college. In addition to being non-remedial, College Credit Plus courses may not be religious in nature.

Graduate with College Credit College Credit Plus Graduate with College Credit Earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year. No more than 120 college credit hours while in the program.

What Are Pathways? Groupings of college courses totaling either 15 or 30 college credit hours. Organized by major or by career path. May include various core courses required for a degree or professional certification by the college.

College Credit Plus Summer Requirements CCP will include summer term courses beginning in 2016 Rules for summer enrollment expected in mid-February 2016

Summer Requirements Summer term will apply as the 1st semester of the next school year. A summer term may begin in May. There may be multiple sessions in a summer term.

Summer Requirements If you want to participate in summer term, you must submit your letter of intent to participate early enough to apply and gain admission to the college and register for course(s) in the spring

Under what scenarios can a qualified student use College Credit Plus?

College Credit Plus You want to take college courses to satisfy your high school graduation requirements. You completed your high school graduation required classes and you want to begin college work. You want to explore college and take a course in a subject that interests you.

Books and Fees Students attending a public college College Credit Plus Books and Fees Students attending a public college do not pay for either books or fees. Students attending a private college may have a cost that includes books and fees.

If you fail the class or drop it too late, you may have to pay for it. College Credit Plus If you fail the class or drop it too late, you may have to pay for it. Classes failed or withdrawn with an “F” will receive an “F” on the high school and college transcripts and will be computed into the high school and college GPA. If you do not receive a passing grade, the district may, in some instances, seek reimbursement for the amount of state funds paid to the college on your behalf for that college course. The school district may withhold grades and credits received for high school courses taken until reimbursement has been made.

College Credit Plus Deadline for Students: By April 1, you must tell us if you intend to participate next year by submitting an ‘Intent to Participate Form’. (handouts-may return tonight)

Paperwork For VBHS Please sign attendance sheet. Intent to Participate Form needs to be return to us before April 1st. It’s better to turn in the intent form even if you are not sure if you want to participate next year. Be sure to meet all college application and test deadlines.
