EN-HE-Heavy Handling Section Mandate prepares, organizes and executes all transport and handling operations for accelerators and experiments and CERN users in general manages several supply, service and rental contracts During the standard CERN operation phase ~55 FTE are provided via an industrial support contract for transport and handling activities. 17.01.2017 CERN - ITER workshop

Transport & handling requests All requests are created via EDH (ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT HANDLING SYSTEM). Standard fields such as height, width, weight, place of loading and unloading,… but also Specific fields to define the nature of the material (fragile, radioactive, chemical, …) By default all transport and handling activities are covered up to CHF 500,000 by the contractor.
