Previous Workshop Reminders …

Workshop Objectives To show you how we teach your children the early stages of writing. To provide you with information and resources to help you support your child’s writing at home. To give you the opportunity to put some of these strategies into practise through various activities.

Phonics- Writing ‘green’ words Blending sounds to read words e.g. c-oa-t coat Segmenting words to write them e.g. coat c-oa-t We teach the sound not the letter name!

Digraphs- 2 letters make 1 sound Trigraphs- 3 letters make 1 sound ‘Special friends’ Look for them in words Practise writing them in words

Sounding out to write words Write the word to match the picture!

Phonics- Writing ‘red’ words ‘Red’ words are ‘tricky’ words. They cannot be sounded out! Children must learn them from memory. Practise, practise, practise!
