Values

Homework Daily Reading Please read with your child on a daily basis. It is important that your child is read with regularly as this is the foundation of all of our studies within school. We will continue to develop your child’s understanding and comprehension through various reading activities in school. When is homework given & due in? Homework will be given on a Wednesday each week and is due in the following Monday. The homework will be closely linked to the areas of the curriculum we are focusing on that week and will include elements of English and Mathematics.

Homework Why is there so much more homework in Year 6? We are preparing the children for their SATs exams, and for secondary school. Because of this, we will be assigning homework in up to 3 CGP books every week (Maths, Reading and SPaG). This is a well-respected company, and using their books to reinforce learning has been shown to improve SATs results. Please ONLY do the work assigned! The homework is set so that children may complete it all by doing 15-20 minutes a night. Please do NOT leave it all until the last minute, as this will cause stress and frustration! Planning how to organise their time is an essential skill for the children to acquire before secondary school. That said, if you feel your child has done a sufficient amount, STOP. Little and often is better! If your child is struggling with the homework, or has questions or concerns, please see us—we are here to help!

Secondary school You should have received an email from Surrey County Council about secondary schools. Applications will be due towards the end of October. The best way to decide what secondary school is for you is to visit!!

Educational Visits Our topics this year will include learning about a range of areas across the curriculum to support our studies in Science, Geography and History. This will include a residential visit in the summer term! If parent halpers are required, we will add this to the letter about the relevant trip. Please note: all helpers need to have had a DBS check.

Our behaviour system

If your child has concerns If a child is unhappy we encourage them to speak out about it by: Talking to a friend Raising an issue in circle time Talking to any member of staff Talking to a parent/ carer who can relay worries to us Talking to any class teacher Writing a note to any trusted adult who can then investigate. Speaking to a middle or senior leader

Addressing parent concerns Firstly, please speak to the class teacher or any member of the Year team – we are here to help! If it has not been resolved the next step is the Phase Leader – Miss Kurton Then, if it still hasn’t been resolved the next step is one of the Senior Leadership Team
