Calling All Vaughan DADS Sign - Up

We are so glad you are here! Welcome Welcome Dads, Granddads, Uncles, and other Father Figures! We are so glad you are here! For the next few minutes we want to introduce you to a program at Vaughan Elementary that increases with importance each and every day What do people mean, “Dads don’t care”; “They don’t really know what goes on in their children’s school”? You care…you know what goes on at school – Right? Here is a way to show you care!

Mission Statement Our Mission Statement from the National Center for Fathering and endorsed by the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services is: Improve the well-being of children by inspiring and equipping men to be more effectively involved in the lives of their children

Steps to join in 2016 2017 Fill out Vaughan Registration Form, returning it to Mrs. Moffett. Complete the AISD background screening. Allow yourself a couple of weeks for it to be approved before your scheduled date as WatchD.O.G.S . dad. Pick out a date on the WatchD.O.G.S. calendars posted on Mrs. Moffett’s webpage, and contact her to get it reserved for you www.allenisd.org Click on “register to be a volunteer”

Support You Can Offer at Vaughan Provide added assistance to our security measures at our school Work one-on-one with a student or in small groups of students Read to students Use flashcards Help with homework Be a sports referee Give a listening ear Help a teacher / office personnel as a handyman

Expectations You are being asked to spend at least one day at your child’s / children’s school in this extraordinary volunteering opportunity! Yes, you read that right – just one day in the school year We certainly hope that by the end of that day, you will be so thrilled and excited you will want to volunteer for another day, but your one day will be greatly appreciated

Guidelines - 1 You will spend the whole day with us Your duty day will be from 7:50 AM to 2:45 PM You won’t have free time to run home if you forget your lunch You will have to put your cell phone away for the time you are here If you must have your cell phone to communicate with your work colleagues while you are here, please turn it on only during your exterior perimeter patrols and then switch it to “Off” upon reentering the building.

Guidelines - 2 Please wear your WATCH D.O.G.S. T-shirt for your day of duty. The counselor has some available for purchase ($16). Or we have a special vest you can wear while you are on campus. We want everyone to easily identify you as our DOGS dad of the day! Please only wear your WATCH D.O.G. T-shirt when serving at our school or our school functions

Your WATCH D.O.G. Day begins You will be scanned in at the front desk at 7:45 AM and then proceed with your child/children to the library for morning announcements and your official “Dog Tag”. You will be in good company right along with our principals, other staff members, and the 6th Grade Captains running the morning show at WVOV. They will show you the ropes! Don’t worry!

Your WATCH D.O.G. Day continues At that time you will appear in front of the whole student body with your child / children and the principal(s) on our live broadcast. YOU will be introduced as the DOGS volunteer of the day ! You will pose for your WATCH D.O.G.S. photograph with your child / children for our WATCH D.O.G.S. “Wall of Fame”.

Your WATCH D.O.G. Day Schedule At announcements, you will be given your purple schedule for the day. On the back of your schedule, you need to complete the checklist of expectations for being a positive role model here at Vaughan. Your check marks will indicate you have read the guidelines and agree to them. From this point on, you will follow your schedule all day.

Your WATCH D.O.G. Day plans Each schedule and grade level is individualized If you have children in different grade levels, your schedule will allow you to spend time with each of them During your day, expect to have lunch with your child / children, attend some parts of classes with them, and possibly go to recess with them

Other Duties You May Be Asked to Do Patrol our grounds and building for security! You’ll get a key to the playground gates for the day. Help the office make deliveries to classrooms Assist with cafeteria duty

Finishing Your WATCH D.O.G. Day Take the WATCH D.O.G.S. survey on the library computer and call the next WATCH D.O.G.S. to alert him about his duty day Checkout at the front desk, give Mrs. Compton the gate key and turn in your nametag You were busy all day and are most likely feeling tired at this time  Go home and put your feet up! You deserve it!

Parting Thoughts We hope that you have a wonderful day at Vaughan Elementary and notice the amazing things that happen here on a daily basis! We believe that our school is a great place for our students. We hope that after your WATCH D.O.G.S. day, you will think that it is a terrific place for your children to spend their school days, too!

We look forward to you being a Thank You Thank you very much for your time and interest! We look forward to you being a WATCHD.O.G.S. team member!
