The colour

1. What is the colour? Colour is LIGHT, broken down into wave lengths; each one has a different vibratory rate.

2. Newton Experiment YouTube - *The Visible Spectrum*

3. Colour perception ● An object that absorbs all the light waves with no reflection back is perceived as black . ● One that reflects all the light is seen as white. ● We see an object as blue when the sunlight hits it and it absorbs all the colours of the spectrum except blue, which is reflected back.

Example In this example you can check that you can perceive colours in a different way depending on the light and on the colours around it

4. Additive mixture If we mix light, we call it additive mixture

5. Subtractive mixture If we mix colours or pigments, we call it subtractive mixture

6. Primary colours ● lemon yellow ● Magenta ● cyan They’re the colours you can´t get with the mixture of any colour.

7. Secondary colours ● yellow + magenta= red ● cyan + magenta=purple ● Cyan + yellow= green When you mix two primary colours you get secondary colours.

8. Tertiary colours Here you can see combinations of primary and secondary colours.

Tertiary colours ●GREEN + RED = YELLOW GREY ●GREEN + PURPLE = BLUE GREY ●RED + PURPLE = PINK GREY

9. Warm colours Warm colors are often said to be hues from red through yellow, browns and tans included.

10. Cool colours Cool colors are often said to be the hues from blue green through blue violet.

11. Neutral colours ●White ●Black ● Neutral Grey They are the colours which aren’t warm or cool.

12. Complementary colours They are those colours which are opposite each other in the colour circle.

13. Colour qualities ● Hue ● Saturation ● Value Darkness Lightness See also: Color, Value and Hue

14. Colour scales ● Hue scales ●Saturation scales ●Value scales  Tints (with white)  Shadows (with black)

15. Chromatic organization We organize colours in different ways:

16. Goethe triangle

17. Colour wheel ● See also Color wheel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

18. Harmony …Are the colours which have similar hues and are near in the colour wheel.

19. Contrast Contrast colours are those which have the opposite hue in the colour wheel.
