The LDC Expert Group Established in 2001 to provide technical guidance and support on adaptation to the LDCs, covering NAPAs and NAPs Composed of LDC and Annex II members, and working hand in hand with other constituted bodies under the Convention Has been proving this guidance and support through technical guidelines, technical papers, regional workshops such as this one, NAP Expos, online contents on the LDC Portal and NAP Central, etc. Working closely with agencies, regional centers and various organizations in its work For NAPs, mandated by the Conference of Parties to produce Technical Guidelines for the NAPs, running NAP Expos, the online system NAP Central that houses submitted NAPs, and early next year, will lead the assessment of progress on NAPs under the SBI

Various means of support for NAPs have been set up The LEG, working with partners through the NAP Technical Working Group, providing technical guidance and support on NAPs, through technical guidelines The GEF – financial support to enable the the process to formulate and implement NAPs, through the LDCF and SCCF The GCF – financial support to formulate and implement the NAPs UN organizations to develop support programmes on NAPs, e.g. the NAP Global Support Programme implemented by UNEP and UNDP, with funding from the LDCF and SCCF, to offer technical support Bilateral programmes/networks e.g. NAP Global Network offering technical support on special topics on adaptation planning Other organizations offering sector-specific support, e.g. FAO through NAP-Ag for agriculture, forestry and fisheries

Objectives of this workshop Overall objective is to guide and support the countries in advancing their work on NAPs Specific objectives: To support the countries in Elements B to D of the NAP guidelines using the latest integrative framework for SDGs and NAPs To enhance the capacity of the countries in accessing the GCF funding for the formulation of NAPs To provide an overview of available technical support as well as financial support To promote South-South and regional collaboration on NAPs To provide a platform for countries to share experiences and lessons learned and promote best practices when formulating and implementing the NAPs

Learning loops for adaptation (source: LEG BP&LL Vol 3) Presentation title Learning loops for adaptation (source: LEG BP&LL Vol 3) Learning loops: pathways, outcomes and dynamics of single, double and triple-loop learning relating to adaptation14 Learning is crucial for the planning and implementation of adaptation. There are different kinds of learning processes which can be depicted as learning loops (see box 11). Single-loop learning processes address urgent and immediate needs and assess the efficiency of projects and actions. Double-loop learning processes look at larger scales, such as the programme level. Here, corrective measures can be undertaken that build on the lessons learned from the implementation of projects and actions. Triple-loop learning processes look at long-term processes, such as long-term adaptation, and question all constructs that mediate risk and risk management. Ideally triple-loop learning processes trigger transformational change, which, in the context of climate change, would mean the full integration of climate change into all policies and programmes. Objectives of NAPs and the PA global goal on adaptation Presentation title Objectives of NAPs and the PA global goal on adaptation Objectives of the NAP process (decision 5/CP.17) are: To reduce vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, by building adaptive capacity and resilience; To facilitate the integration of climate change adaptation, in a coherent manner, into relevant new and existing policies, programmes and activities, in particular development planning processes and strategies, within all relevant sectors and at different levels, as appropriate. Global goal on adaptation (Article 7 of the Paris Agreement) Enhancing adaptive capacity, strengthening resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate change, with a view to contributing to sustainable development and ensuring an adequate adaptation response in the context of the global temperature limit of less than 2°C.

The NAP is the main output of the process, and is designed to be iterative, country-driven, and would provide the substance of the adaptation ambition expressed in the NDCs and Adaptation Communications under the Paris Agreement Financial support for the formulation of NAPs and implementation of policies, programmes and projects identified therein is well grounded in the GCF
