Be Responsible Cell phones can be used before school, after school, and during lunch. They are not to be used in the classroom unless teacher permits. If your phone is confiscated, your parent must come to get it from the Guidance Office. Serious offenses that will lead to Suspension, Expulsion, and/or arrest Sexual Harassment: Any sexual comment, gesture, touch, action, or drawing may result in a suspension and a recommendation for expulsion. Weapons, Drugs and Controlled Substances: Possession, use, or sale of any firearm, weapon, tobacco, alcohol, or drug (including some over the counter and prescription drugs) will result in a suspension, recommendation for expulsion, and/or arrest. Look-a-likes may result in the same consequence. YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ZERO TOLERANCE!!! SAUSD enforces a “Zero Tolerance” policy toward weapons, drugs, and alcohol. Any student in possession of a firearm (including look-alike weapons), brandishing a knife, possession of or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, will be suspended immediately and can be recommended for expulsion and arrest. No Choice Items… (Determined by the Board of Education & EdCode) Sale of Illegal Substance Brandishing a Weapon Extortion (forcing someone to do something that is illegal) Robbery You will be expelled Achievement: students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass reading and math assessments than students who don't attend school regularly. Opportunity: being in school every day gives them a chance to learn more about college and scholarship opportunities, and to take the important exams they need to build a successful academic record. Exposure to the English language: Regular school attendance can also help students who are learning English by giving them the chance to master the skills and information they need more quickly and accurately even in other subjects! Being part of the school community: Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view. The importance of education: Your commitment to school attendance will also send a message to your child that education is a priority for your family, going to school every day is a critical part of educational success, and that it's important to take your responsibilities seriously including going to school.
