Taking your project over the top – Attach fruit , seed , nut samples Nice colors in leaves and colored Paper , pictures on pages of actual Trees , bark samples etc.

Think about this …. Why do leaves Change colors?

Leaves needle like = pines,spruces Firs, hemlocks Broad leaves(decidious)

Leaves simple – 1 leaf per leaf stem

Leaves compound – more than Leaf per leaf stem

Opposite and compound will Be white ash 99% of the time in This area.

Alternate and compound – staghorn Sumac is the most common.

Red oak – alternate , simple – deep Lobes with pointed ends – look For acorns

Other common oaks are Pin oak – very deep lobe Cuts.

White Oak – smooth, rounded Lobes – acorns are highly Prized by wildlife

Needle like – needles in clusters = Pines, 2 needle=red pine(3-5 inches 1-2 in. = scotch pine-orangish bark 5 needles = white pine. Single needles = spruces, firs or Hemlock (NOT PINES)

2 needles in a cluster – long 3-5in = red pine – short 2 needles with orangish in bark is scotch pine

White pine – 5 needle clusters

Larch = Tamarack – a conifer that Loses it needles .
