Presentation transcript:

By Claire Barnes, Willow Dene School 5 Little Monkeys A multi-media presentation to accompany the popular counting song to promote one-to-one correspondence, numeral recognition and counting skills. By Claire Barnes, Willow Dene School

5 Little Monkeys Ask how many monkeys the children can see. Click to make the numeral 0 appear. Then click to make each monkey, and the associated numeral, to appear. Encourage the children to count the monkeys out loud or on their fingers or draw their attention to the numeral. When all five monkeys have appeared, ask the students “How many monkeys?”. Click to make the monkeys squeak, and count along with the sounds. Confirm the amount, then click once more to make the numeral 5 flash. Start singing the song: (click to start monkeys jumping) Five little monkeys jumping on the bed One fell off and bumped his head (click and pause to allow monkey to fall off, then click again to make doctor appear) He went to the doctor and the doctor said “No more monkeys jumping on the bed”. The bed with the remaining monkeys will reappear without clicking. Ask “How many monkeys?”, then check by clicking and counting along with the squeaks. Ask the children which number they think will light up next. Either click, or if you are using an interactive whiteboard, you could ask them to touch it. The right numeral will light up regardless of the one they touch. Continue singing the song, as above.
