PBL Final Product By: Emily Milheim Women’s Roles PBL Final Product By: Emily Milheim

Big idea Gender Equality

Essential Question How do roles of women currently differ from roles of women in Ancient Rome?

Guiding Questions 1: what were women’s roles like in Ancient Rome? 2: what are women’s roles like currently? 3: How and why are the role’s of women in different time periods different?

Thesis Women’s roles have majorly changed since Ancient Rome, but women are still do not have equal roles or rights to men.

Women’s roles in Ancient Rome At best only lived until they were 20 or 30 Married at 12 years-olds or younger Entered husband’s home when married Husband had control Cannot own property/land Need a man for money

Women’s roles currently In America, the average age to get married is: 28 years old Lived much longer than 20-30 years old, because of: Medicines Advances in technology Bathing daily Women and/or men could have control of the household, not just men Can own property Do not need a man to have money for: Kids Food Clothing

How are they different?

Why are the different? Women’s roles have evolved because: Women have demanded more rights They will not settle for being just “housemaids” anymore, “housemaids” meaning just taking care of the house and children, and not having control over anything In conclusion: Over time, women have begun to stick up for themselves and realize that they deserve equal rights to men. They have also realized that them, as women, should to something to earn equal rights to men and to be able to have the same roles as them.

Problem The problem/situation that I am trying to solve is that men do not believe women deserve to have the same rights and roles to them. Which in fact they do. Men, and anyone else that believe that women to not believe that women should have equal rights should be proven wrong. I am showing them that women have come a long way since Ancient Rome to earn equal rights, and we are still as strong and powerful, and will continue to fight for equal rights to men, however long it takes.

Solutions Spread Awareness: I may not be able to spread awareness to that many people, but at least I can spread awareness to my classmates, teachers and maybe some parents about how far women have come in society, and that we are strong and powerful Help people learn more about it: Some people may not know much about women’s rights and the history of it. It is very important for people to be informed about women’s roles so women and men never have unequal roles and/or unequal rights again

Reflection The Solution: First I started to take basic notes on my topic, women’s roles and gender equality, to get the general idea of it. Gender Equality= the state in which access to rights or opportunities in unaffected by gender. Then I took some notes on just women’s roles in Ancient Rome and currently. Next, I analyzed those notes to come up with a solution. I think my solution will make a difference because it shows people how drastic women’s roles are from men’s and make them realize women are strong and powerful. Executing the Solution: Some obstacles I faced during the process was managing my time. Found it hard to keep up with the schedule and finishing the journals on time. Review Your Work: I could have solved this challenge differently by working in a group and splitting up the work. If I were to take on this challenge again, I would have worked with a group to make it easier for me to split up the work so I would not have to do so much. Also, I would have started a little bit earlier so I could get a head start. One thing I learned and will never forget is that time changes EVERYTHING, especially human’s roles.

Journal #1 2/12/17 I have decided to do my PBL Topic on gender equality. The big question I have chosen is to show how women have been treated differently compared from Ancient Rome to currently. So far I have started to find websites that have to do with women’s roles in Ancient Rome and women’s roles currently: http://www.womenintheancientworld.com/ Women in the Ancient World http://www.ancient.eu/ The Role of Women in the Roman World

Journal # 2 3/24/17 My top priorities for next week are to gather up a little bit more facts and start my visual. For my visual I plan to make a Venn Diagram comparing women’s roles in Ancient Rome to women’s roles currently.

Journal #3 4/28/17 My top priorities for next week are to start working/thinking of what to do for the final product. I want to get a head start on it so I do not fall behind or ever have to struggle to finish on time. Doing this will give me more time to finish, so I can hopefully get it done early, so I can make sure my final product is perfect.

Timeline Tuesday, January 31- Today I learned about the PBL activity. I later picked out my PBL topic. Wednesday, February 1- Today I started searching up websites for my topic, women’s roles. Thursday, February 2- Today I went on World History in Context and found four resources related to women’s roles in Ancient Rome. Friday, February 3- Today I searched more database articles and books that give more information about women’s roles, currently, in the United States of America.. Monday, February 13- I started taking notes on the websites and databases I found previously. I also started to plan out my infographic. Friday, March 10- I typed my essential and subsidiary questions and continued to take notes on women’s roles. Thursday, March 23- I started the 2nd journal and revised my thesis statement to make sure it is argumentative. Friday, March 24- Today I took notes on women’s roles in Ancient Rome. Thursday, March 30- I took notes on women’s roles currently in the United States Friday, March 31- I took notes on women’s roles in Ancient Rome.
