Reading Week 4/10/16- 7/10/16

Book Swap Tuesday- Simply bring to school an old book that you have already read and swap with someone to receive a new book. Spend time with your parents to read your new book in the hall.

Author Visit Wednesday- Dan Worsley will be joining us in Worship to tell us all about his new book which he will be selling for £5. He is staying to work with Year 3 and Year 4 in a writing workshop.

Book Fair Thursday- The book fair will be in arriving in the hall. Your class will have an opportunity to look at the books during the day. Then for a week, the book fair will be open straight after school for you to purchase your favourite books.

Harris Museum Thursday- Year 5 and Year 6 will be visiting the Harris Museum to look at the Michael Foreman exhibition where they will be looking at his work as an illustrator and author. They will step inside his stories using the props and films.

Kirkham Library Friday- Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be visiting Kirkham Library to listen to stories and look for books.

Roald Dahl’s Birthday Friday- Celebrating his 100th Birthday with a dress up day. Come to school dressed as your favourite Roald Dahl character.

Medlar Mission We will be creating a big book as a whole school. The title of the book being ‘Medlar Mission’. Each class needs to plan what they think should happen in the book and then create their chapter together. Mrs Astbury will read the finished book on Monday 10th October. FS- Illustrate the front cover Y1- Chapter 1 Y2- Chapter 2 Y3- Chapter 3 Y4- Chapter 4 Y5- Chapter 5 Y6- Chapter 6

Shuffle Story Teachers will be swapping classes for half an hour in the afternoons to read their favourite stories in different classrooms.

Extreme Reading Your homework for the weekend is extreme reading. You need to find somewhere extreme to read a book and take a picture.

Star of the Week Teachers will be looking for star participants during reading week for the Star of the Week Award on Friday.

Gospel Value- Encouragement When we feel tired and discouraged, God will help us finish what we’ve started. The people of Israel must have felt like they were never going to reach the promise land. They spent 40 years wandering around the desert. There were times when they showed they trusted God but there were also times they let their discouragement get the best of them and they “gave up” by complaining and disobeying God.

Gospel Value- Encouragement Time and time again, God encouraged His people that He would help them. Even though they disobeyed and often did wrong things, God continued to provide for them. God will never leave us, even if we want to give up, God will come and help us.   If you are feeling discouraged about reading or you are finding a book challenging to read just remember that God will help you through it and finish the book that you started.
