Lessons I Learned from Writing a Book Publishing Aurella the Witch

Lesson #1 – Writing is About YOU First comment I got from my friend – “She’s so you!” There are little pieces of myself all throughout the book. That is why it is so special to me. - JARED SAID, “SHE IS SO YOU!” AND I WAS LIKE, “NO IT’S NOT!”

What inspired my book? My own childhood… The way I was treated I was small and gullible. People UNDERESTIMATED ME and did not take me seriously. The books I read All of the best fantasy stories were about boys! What I wished I had Courage… Mavic’s character is my ideal big brother THAT IS WHY THE STORY IS SO SPECIAL TO ME. THERE ARE LITTLE BITS OF MY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS SCATTERED ALL THROUGHOUT THE BOOK.

Lesson #2 – The Writing Process is a PROCESS A process means it TAKES TIME and many steps. I’ll give you a quick low-down on my writing process…

The Writing Process 1 2 3 4 5 Prewriting Drafting Revising Editing Publishing 5

Writing Can be Messy! The writing process doesn’t always go in order. I went back and forth a lot! Here’s my real order: Prewriting ideas Drafting first chapter Revising first chapter Prewrite new ideas for later Drafting next chapters Revising those chapters Continued in that cycle Finished the whole draft Revising and editing over and over! Publishing

Prewriting Synopsis

Prewriting Characters Setting

Prewriting Outline of the Plot (lots of mistakes)

Drafting I just started writing! Took several months to complete First draft – 270 pages

Revising How many of you don’t like revising your work? "By the time I am nearing the end of a story, the first part will have been reread and altered and corrected at least one hundred and fifty times . . . Good writing is essentially rewriting. I am positive of this." —Roald Dahl This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA

Editing I often edit as I go. When I was finished drafting and revising, I went back and edited the whole thing. Then, I had a lot of people read and edit it too.

Publishing - Interior Interior design – what it looks like inside Fonts, sizing, styles . . .

Publishing - Cover Cover design – what it looks like outside Authors pick a designer and explain vision Here are some of the designs I got back . . .

Publishing - Selling Next I uploaded all of my files to the printing company. They put it up for sell. I advertised it.

Any Questions? If you have any questions about my book or about writing, I’d love to answer them at this time  If there is time, I’ll read a few pages of the book.
