Parent Information Night 2017 Welcome to 2/3G Joanne Gadaleta

My Philosophy Education is not filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire - William Butler Yeats I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think – Socrates Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theatre - Gail Goldwin

The home/school partnership is very important

Student who love learning My Goals To develop: Independent Resilient Organised Self-motivated Student who love learning

Urban Myths about Composite Classes The presence of younger students affects the maturity development of older students. Research does not support this assumption – in any regular class there may be up to 18 months age difference amongst students Our syllabus does not consider students in age groups but stage groups

Composite classes are more difficult because there are different groups Every class is a ‘composite class’. Any group of students (even if they are the same height, age, weight and share the same birthday) have differences in abilities across a wide range of endeavours. Teachers have always designed their teaching programs to cater for different levels of ability.

HOMEWORK Please let me know if the are any problems with the homework load Encourage your child to ask me for help early in the week

Why Homework is important: It improves your child’s thinking and memory It helps your child develop positive study skills and habits Homework encourages your child to use time wisely It teaches your child to work independently Homework teaches your child to take responsibility for his/her work

Homework helps your child learn to use resources, such as libraries, reference materials, and Web sites to find information It encourages your child to explore subjects more fully than classroom time permits It allows your child to extend learning by applying skills to new situations It helps your child integrate learning by applying many different skills to a single task, e.g. book reports & science projects It encourages parents to help spark your child’s enthusiasm
