Spinal Muscular Atrophy Katerina Barker

Pathophysiology Atrophy is the wasting away of muscles due to the lack of use. Not using your muscles make them weak.

Causes and Symptoms Causes could include; lack of use or exercise, mutations, poor nourishment, or poor circulation. The symptom of atrophy is weakness or loss of strength in muscles.

Diagnostic Tools Blood tests X-rays MRI CT Scan Nerve conduction studies Muscle or nerve biopsy EMG

Treatment Treatment will depend on the severity of the muscle loss. Most common treatments are: Exercise Physical Therapy Ultrasound Therapy Surgery Dietary Changes

Dietary Considerations Your height and body weight will determine the amount of fat, fiber, protein, and calories you should have.
