Prince Edward County Public Schools Purpose To share the thoughts and ideas of the participants from the Listening Forums in two primary areas: instructional programming and capital improvements November 7, 2016 December 1, 2016 To utilize feedback as a foundational factor in division goal-setting and budget allocations Prince Edward County Public Schools

Prince Edward County Public Schools Summary of the Process Present information about Prince Edward County Public Schools – Schools by the Numbers Share the primary question: What is your vision for Prince Edward County Public Schools? (in the areas of instructional programming and capital improvements) Facilitate small group discussions (Prince Edward County School Board members and senior staff ) Compile thoughts and ideas Consider feedback for division and budget planning Prince Edward County Public Schools

Participant Responses December 1, 2016 November 7, 2016 Instructional Programming Develop a ROTC Program Develop a Robotics Program Focus on Reading (preK-3) Provide additional field trips to extend learning Focus on producing productive citizens (not SOLs) Focus on instructional best practices (no worksheets) Focus on special needs programs and training Focus on students in the middle Focus on additional opportunities for gifted students Focus on differentiation in classrooms Increase rigor and problem-solving Instructional Programming Offer foreign language at the elementary level Offer more foreign languages in the middle school Provide more enrichment activities for talented and gifted (TAG) students Offer cursive and keyboarding earlier Include more writing across the curriculum Reduce the focus on dual enrollment (concern about student readiness)/Increase the number of dual enrollment classes Reduce class sizes, specifically in the elementary school Offer more hands on learning activities Develop a STEM program Develop an AVID program Prince Edward County Public Schools

Participant Responses December 1, 2016 November 7, 2016 Capital Improvements Provide consistent heating and air temperatures in all facilities Focus on increased facility cleanliness Provide additional parking Capital Improvements Upgrade bathroom to include soap dispensers, door upgrades, paper towels dispensers, etc. Upgrade the football stadium Continue athletic field maintenance and upgrades Upgrade concession stand Replace the elementary roof Replace the high school roof Increase safety structures at the elementary school because it is an open campus Prince Edward County Public Schools

Participant Responses November 7, 2016 December 1, 2016 General Continue with providing fresh fruit for students Develop a process chart for parents in need of assistance in areas other than instruction Provide the history of Prince Edward County Public Schools for new teachers; participate in open conversation about race and poverty Increase teacher morale Provide consistent bus expectations Investigate a “Free Lunch for All” program Provide quality substitutes and allow long-term substitutes to teach every day General Offer vaccines in schools Need separate buses for schools for transportation with ES students as a priority to separate Continue the fresh produce and salad bar offerings Increase parental communications; offer email notifications as an option and use school messenger more often Provide parents with a “Teacher Wish Lists” Provide more opportunities for students including field trips, talent shows, plays, and opportunities for children to take charge Prince Edward County Public Schools
