P D A P C A D PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) Definition: Application: 2 2 PDCA is an acronym for “Plan, Do, Check, Adjust/Act” cycle of continuous improvement. It is the four-step method used by CCM to eliminate problems and waste. P Application: In the “PLAN” stage, the Team carefully identifies the current state of the problem with metrics (footsteps, time, touch-points, bending, cost). The Team then identifies the ideal state (reduction of the metrics above). The Team analyzes the problem using “Root Cause Analysis” techniques such as the 5-Whys, Fishbone Diagram, surveys. The Team then brainstorms appropriate Countermeasures to eliminate the “root causes”. In the “DO” stage, the Team will test the countermeasures that they feel will eliminate the problem in a controlled pilot group . In the “CHECK” stage, the Team will examine how their countermeasures behaved; did it get better or worse? In the “Adjust” stage, if the problem was not eliminated, they will revisit the problem and analyze once again and test different countermeasures. If the problem was eliminated, they move to the “ACT” stage. In the “ACT” stage, the new process becomes the new standard and should be rolled out to all teams involved with the process. CCM Problem-Solving Worksheet What pain are we feeling? What’s getting in the way? Who’s responsible for Executing tasks? By when? How does it work today? What do we know for sure? (Quantify the waste or magnitude) Has the solution improved the problem? How do we know? Why is this happening? “Fact” or “Assumption”? Facility Manager’s information: What does it affect? Simple? Difficult? (CD Help?) Is it Local? CCM-wide? What we will do to correct it.

PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) Purpose: 4 4 PDCA is the most reliable technique for teams to ensure problems are being solved, that the problems do not come back, and that other problems are not being created. 4 4

Discuss! That is one catchy song! CCM is so creative At making LEAN FUN!!! I bet we’ll be solving more problems thanks to this! And did you see those dance moves?! Problem Solving with… Can I get that on iTunes? That is one catchy song! Isn’t It YMCA? PDCA!!!
