HUNTED ENDANGERED SPECIES By Holly Rutter

I choose the Black Rhino

Black Rhino - Critically Endangered Population - fewer than 5,000 worldwide Height – 5,2 feet Weight – 1,760 – 3,080 pounds Habitats – Grasslands, deserts, shrublands

The Black Rhino is found in Africa

Why is the Black Rhino endangered? Hunters are responsible for most deaths of black Rhinos. People sometimes thought they were vermin. In 2016 1,054 Black Rhinos were killed in South Africa alone. Habitat changes have contributed to them being endangered. Poachers are the main threat. Could be wiped out in the next 20 years.

Illegal wildlife trade People kill Black Rhinos for their Horns. Horns can be used for medicine. It is also used to show wealth. Poachers can get us $60,000.

Why they Matter!!!! It is the oldest group of mammal. It is virtually a living fossil. They create a large blocks of land for conservation purposes. This benefits other species including Elephants
