Hot topic in the regions/countries? Issues/threats/risks/challenges Lack of social protection coverage/access to social protection – (legal but also effective access) Countries are becoming more and more protective (strengthening borders) internal migration issue 1) situation before going abroad; 2) when abroad; 3) when they return no coverage Disconnect labour law – home affairs – social security. Migrants in informal employment Familiy left behind African pasport debate Lack of reciprocity/equality of treatment in GCC (but also elsewhere) Threat of privatization No country 100% CoO or CoD

What can we do? Campaign Sensitizations general public - Raise migrants profile as workers Showcase good practices (eg Pakistan/Sri Lanka…) Promote/improve increased access to services link IGAs Establish Fund ? – have employers contribute to this? Inclusion social security in BLAs Promotion social dialogue – participation workers and employers Position paper for global compact with clear messages and convincing arguments and actionable commitments Support to regional consultations /thematic consultations TC projects But also Promote ratification and application of ILS Conclusion and implementation of bilateral/multilateral ss agreements Promote/support unilateral measures (incl equality of treatment in national law, basic level of protection through voluntary coverage) Promote SPF (fill gap when lack of coordination, for returning migrants, for families left behind…etc.)
