Can can can’t

أولاً: بمعنى يستطيع أو لا يستطيع (ability) Can She can do her homework هي تستطيع حل واجباتها Can’t She can’t do her homework هي لا تستطيع حل واجباتها

ثانياً: بمعنى مسموح أو غير مسموح (allowed) Can You can watch TV after 10 p.m. مسموح لك أن تشاهد التلفزيون بعد العاشرة مساءً. Can’t You can’t watch TV after 10 p.m. غير مسموح لك أن تشاهد التلفزيون بعد العاشرة مساءً.

May may may not

تأتي بمعنى الإحتمـــال (possibility) may She may do it this afternoon. هي ربما (احتمال) ستفعل ذلك هذا المساء may not She may not do it this afternoon. هي ربما (احتمال) لن تفعل ذلك هذا المساء

Should Should Shouldn’t

تأتي بمعنى النصيحة (a good idea, important to do) should You should spend time on this. ينبغي أن تقضي وقتاً في ذلك Shouldn’t You shouldn’t spend time on this. لا ينبغي أن تقضي وقتاً في ذلك

Have to have to don’t have to

تأتي بمعنى ضروري أو غير ضروري (necessary or unnecessary) have We have to finish the work now. يجب عليك أن تنهي العمل الآن. don’t have to I've already finished. You don't have to worry. لقد أنهيت عملي تواً. لا داعي لأن تقلق.

Must mustn’t must

تأتي بمعني إما ضروري جداً أو ممنوع (necessary or forbidden ) We must finish the work now. يجب أن تنهي العمل الآن You mustn't finish even a minute late! ممنوع أن تتأخر حتى لو لدقيقة!
