MY E-PORTFOLIO Introducción al Diseño curricular de 6º año de la Escuela Secundaria Inglés.2012 MARIA VICTORIA ESPIL

First meeting 16/02/12 There is so much I need to learn!! Today we dealt with the purposes of assessment. We talked about assessment FOR, AS and THROUGH LEARNING. We completed this chart My reflection: Assessing is not a simple task, but it´s essencial to get information from students and take the best decisions to help them keep learning. WHAT I KNOW We usually evaluate final results. Lately there has been a tendency to give different kinds of tests, not only the traditional achievement tests. Testing is essential for taking decisions. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW How to assess or evaluate more fairly and efficiently, paying attention to students´ different skills, and “intelligences”. WHAT I LEARNED There is so much I need to learn!!

CLIL method (core features) Principles We were also analising the final curriculum design for 6th year at secondary schools. Goals CLIL method (core features) Principles My reflection: It was very useful to discuss all these points in groups. Listening to others` views and experiences, and sharing each other´s doubts is always enriching.

Second meeting 28/02/12 It was time to speak about CLIL in more detail. We were supposed to make a CLIL unit in groups, so we went deeper into: the 4 C´s content cognition communication culture Bloom´s and Anderson`s taxonomy of learning domains.

We also had a look at The CLIL toolkit, and analized it. My own reflection: Everything was so confusing at the beginning!! Too much information to digest. Fortunately, with the discussions in class, the reading material and the group work, concepts started to appear more clearly in my mind. After meeting my group mates, we came up with a beautiful mind map, and good ideas to develop a CLIL unit. It was a rewarding experience!

Third meeting 23/03/12 Today we looked at other groups mind maps and described ours. Later we spoke about assessment principles. We also dealt with CONSTRUCTS:”abilities of learners which underlie test performance, but we cannot directly observe” e.g. intelligence, attitude, fluency. At home, I was reading about other concepts: WASHBACK and RAPPORT,and looking at the test design cycle. My reflection: This meeting was very useful, especially looking at each other´s mind maps and units development. I realized there are hundreds of things you can do. At the same time, reflecting on assessment I noticed that there are many things I have to improve when designing a test, because the washbacks can be undesirable if I am not a careful test designer. There are still some concepts I have to refresh and read more about.

Fourth meeting 04/05/12

My reflection: E-portfolio is a great tool for assessing my students My reflection: E-portfolio is a great tool for assessing my students. I can evaluate not only product, but also process. And it can give me information to adjust contents to my students´needs. Above all, it´s motivating and challenging for my students, and it gives them the possibility to be more conscious of their learning process. I KNOW IT WILL BECOME A NEW TOOL OF ASSESSMENT FOR ME. Ms Barret, here I go!!!

MY FINAL REFLECTION Being a teacher could be compared to being a doctor: the moment you stop researching, studying and trying to improve, you become a real danger to your students/patients. This course helped me feel curious about a lot of new approaches, tools and authors. It has really been kind of a push, to keep me going along this path as a teacher. Thank you.
