Procedure to Apply for a Working with Children Check for 1st Year Students IMPORTANT INFORMATION A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is a prerequisite for anyone in child-related work. It involves a national criminal history check and review of findings of workplace misconduct. The result of a WWCC is either a clearance to work with children for five years, or a bar against working with children. Students undertaking Professional Experience must apply for a WWCC and clearance is to be obtained prior to going out on Professional Experience. Read the following flowchart carefully and ensure that you fill in the online Application as soon as possible. If you already have a WWCC number, go to Step 3. On Orientation Day, 25 February 2015, you are required to provide a copy of your letter from the Office of the Children’s Guardian confirming your WWCC number. On the letter, write your Name, Student No., Date of Birth and Program. At the designated ‘break out’ session for your program, drop a copy of your letter into the appropriately marked containers that have been positioned for you. STEP 1: Complete an online Application form Go to www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/check and complete online Application form. Click: Apply for your Check. Ensure the details you provide are exactly the same as the details on your identity documents. You have the option of selecting either Paid worker ($80 fee applies) or Volunteer worker. A Check for a Paid Worker will cover both paid and volunteer work in NSW for five years. Once you submit the Application form you will receive an Application number via email that looks like this: APP1234567. STEP 2: Present proof of your Identity Go to a NSW Motor Registry or RMS agency. Take your Application number and proof of your identity. If you selected Paid worker you will be required to pay an $80 fee for a five year clearance. Allow four weeks from the date you complete the proof of identity requirement to receive your results. The Office of the Children’s Guardian is unable to provide any update on the progress of your application during this time. You will receive your outcome and WWCC number by email (or post if you do not have an email address). If you have not received your results within four weeks, email your details and Application number to check@kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au STEP 3: Submit your WWCC Number on Orientation Day, 25 February 2015 On Orientation Day, provide a copy of your letter from the Office of the Children’s Guardian confirming your WWCC number. On your letter, write your Name, Student No., Date of Birth and Program. At the designated ‘break out’ session for your program, drop a copy of your letter into the appropriately marked containers that have been positioned for you. Your WWCC number to be verified online by the PEX Unit. If clearance is not given, the PEX Unit will advise you to contact the Office of the Children’s Guardian to seek clarification. 10 December 2014/rt
