The Days of Ahab Class #2 The Parable of Obadiah 1

Obadiah the Christadelphian Works for a worldly employer Has a healthy respect for God Had an amazing mission experience Struggles sometimes to witness – it’s out of his comfort zone Motivated and conscience pricked by good examples

Obadiah “Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly” (1 Kings 18:3) servant of Yahweh 3

Halting Between Two Opinions James 1:8 – A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 4:8 – Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Matthew 5:8 – Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Psalm 24:3-4, 6 – Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully… This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O [God of] Jacob. 4

Serving Yahweh Deut. 6:13-14 – Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you Deut 10:13, 20 – And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul... Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. Deut. 13:3-4 – Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. 5

Serving False Gods Deut 7:4, 16 – For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly... And thou shalt consume all the people which the Lord thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee. Deut 8:19 – And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the Lord thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish. See also: Deut. 4:19, 28; 5:9; 12:2, 30; 13:2, 6, 13; 17:3; 28:14, 36, 64; 29:18, 26; 30:17; 31:20 6
