How To Answer Short Answer Questions (SAQs)

Short Answer Questions (SAQs) 20% of your APUSH Test Your responses will be 2 – 3 sentences for each part (9 sentences total). These are not Essays!!! No Thesis Statements!!! Each Short Answer Question is worth 3pts (A = 1pt, B = 1pt, C = 1pt) Answer ALL The Questions (A. A. T. Q.) with What, How, Why!!! (3,2,3 fingers) Thematic Learning Objectives

SAQ Practice Briefly explain ONE example of how contact between Native Americans and Europeans brought changes to Native American societies in the period 1492 to 1700. B. Briefly explain a SECOND example of how contact between Native Americans and Europeans brought changes to Native American societies in the same period. C. SAQ Practice A. Briefly explain ONE example of how contact between Native Americans and Europeans brought changes to Native American societies in the period 1492 to 1700. What: The introduction of the horse will bring a great change to the Native American life. How: The horse made the Native Americans more mobile compared to their nomadic lifestyle pre-Columbian. Why: This mobility will cause the Indians to hunt and gather in a much larger radius and open up opportunities to help their nations survive. Thematic Learning Objectives

SAQ Practice B. Briefly explain a SECOND example of how contact between Native Americans and Europeans brought changes to Native American societies in the same period. What: The introduction of disease will bring a dramatic shift in the population of Native Americans. How: The Spanish will unknowingly bring germ warfare to the Native Americans by introducing small pox through physical contact. Why: The Spanish had lived through and became immune to small pox by the 1500s, but since the Native Americans had no resistance or contact with smallpox it will be responsible for the death of millions of Native Americans. SAQ Practice C. Briefly explain ONE example of how Native American societies resisted change brought by contact with Europeans in the same period. What: Native American societies will fight back against the European explorers. How: The Powhatan Indians will fight against the settlers of Jamestown as they began to expand west. Why: The main reason for this resistance will be to try and preserve their Native American way of life and land. Thematic Learning Objectives
