High School Course Credits If you pass a course, you earn the credit. If you fail a course, you earn no credit. You have to get 60% or higher in order to pass a course If you pass a full year course, you get 1 credit If you pass a semester-long course, you get .5 credit If you pass a quarter (9-week) course, you get .25 credit

How to move to the next grade…and CPI The following standards apply to all students:  9th grade students must earn a minimum total of 5 credits (including at least 3 major subject credits*) to pass 9th grade. 10th grade students must accrue 11 credits/6 major to enjoy 11th grade standing 11th grade students must accrue 17 credits/10 major to enjoy 12th grade standing Must maintain Academic Eligibility for extracurricular participation.

Career development with a purpose Career exploration and planning starts now Too often, students START thinking about their career plans in 11th or 12th grade. That often leads to hasty decisions based on “need” rather than “purpose” How can we assist in this process? Encourage exploration – job shadowing, open houses, internship programs Students often talk about “not knowing what they want to do”. This is often due to not knowing what options they have Postponing this process until they get to college is an expensive and ineffective plan. Exploring options is free now….not free in college Start exploring interests and then match that up with career areas that are in demand

Career development with a purpose Utilize career resources –PACareerZone, ONET, and other career inventories This can start the process….but it is not a magic solution Once areas are identified, students can be excused from school to shadow in the workplace – one day job shadowing Older students can be excused from school to participate in internship experiences Students can use our free resources to research areas of interest Whatever students decide to do after BAHS, it should be with a purpose and we want all students to have a thoughtful plan when they leave Students who have a purpose have a greater incentive to achieve in school

Important items for 9th Grade Parents Parents can sign up for the Parent Portal and have 24/7 access to their child’s grades/attendance The biggest impediment to 9th grade success is getting used to the daily workload. Students who get into a routine of completing and turning in homework have a much higher success rate than those who don’t. We have free tutoring Monday-Thursday for an hour after school for any student who wishes to come We have a dedicated Math tutor at the HS that can work with students during their Study Hall period In order for students to be eligible to attend CPI as a freshman they must have demonstrated a maturity level that would allow them to participate.

Electives What are you interested in? What career area do you want to go into after high school? Where will the in demand jobs be when I graduate? Students are permitted to begin CPI in 9th grade. They can complete after 3 years and come back to the HS as a senior or do an additional year in another CPI program. If you are interested in a post-secondary education, be aware of the entrance requirements you need such as foreign language and math/science levels. What will be helpful? Elective Credits Students will select 2.25 to 3.25 credits of primary electives. If you attend CPI, you do not need to select any other electives Students must also select 5 alternate elective courses in the event their primary selections are not available
