Mastery Assignment: Due Friday, December 9th Can improve grade one full letter grade Must complete each section of the assignment for credit: 3-page typed argumentative essay with three different sources Essay Revision Session with an English teacher 5-10 PowerPoint presentation of your paper and why you deserve redemption Must present in front of the class and get their (and the teacher’s) approval for a grade change

Group Competition: Must earn Raider bucks as a group, but each person can pick their own prize Focus on positive behaviors Decide possible prizes

Text Says Tues: 10/25 After watching the clip on Tupac, make a T-chart in your comp book that analyzes his ethos (credibility). What aspects of his life make him credible and like the rose from the poem? What aspects of his life make his unreliable and unlike the rose from the poem?

Rhetorical Analysis with Tupac 1) Read and annotate the poem Symbolism: A figure of speech where an object, person, or situation has another meaning other than its literal meaning. The color red stands for love or romance. A ladder may stand as a symbol for a connection between the heaven and the earth. A dove represents peace or hope for the future What is the symbolism in “The Rose That Grew from Concrete”?

Repetition: repeating certain words, phrases, or lines for effect Ex: Martin Luther King repeats the phrase “I have a dream” multiple times throughout his speech Find, label, and explain the literary devices in the poem.
