Chapter President Cathy Smith broke her arm and had to have surgery a few weeks before our planned December meeting so it had to be postponed. Please join us at our meeting on the 26th. We will be completing the planning of our annual Volunteer of the Year banquet (Monday, March 13th at the Regatta) as well as discussing possible activities for Teacher’s Appreciation Week. Reps.- Come join us for a combo meeting-members and reps! A+PEL provides several extra benefits besides the $2,000,000 liability insurance so vital to any professional. Below are a few of them. For more information on these extras, check out www.apeleducators.org and click on ‘Benefits’ in the left column: Liability Coverage Membership includes professional liability insurance, which is critical for today’s educators. Refer to the Benefits Insurance page for details. Legal Services Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana provides full legal services and professional assistance to its members in addition to free legal advice for work related issues that occur when you are a member in good standing. The Director of Legal Services and the A+PEL General Counsel review matters of concern to members, make recommendations, and if necessary, assign attorneys to individual cases.  Attorney fees are paid by A+PEL in keeping with existing insurance provisions. Refer to the Benefits Insurance page for details. For legal assistance, please submit a contact form or call the A+PEL office at 1(800)364-2735. Additional Coverages In addition to a $2,000,000 Liability Policy, A+PEL membership includes additional forms of insurance covering attorney fees related to identity theft and criminal action/proceedings (related to your employment). A+PEL membership also provides coverage and protection in the case of assault related property damage and bail bonds (related to your employment). Refer to the Benefits Insurance page for details and limitations.

Reps.- Come join us meeting-members for a combo and reps!   Associate Member Scholarship Award Amount: Up to $500 each Available To: A+PEL Associate Members Deadline to Apply: July 15th/December 15th Winners Announced online: Aug. 1st/Jan. 1st This scholarship is intended to assist A+PEL associate members in achieving certification as professional educators through university coursework or alternative certification programs.  Click on the link below to view requirements prior to applying: Scholarship Eligibility & Guidelines J.Y. Sanders Social Studies Scholarship Award Amount: Up to $500 each Available To: A+PEL Members Teaching in the Social Sciences Deadline to Apply: May 15th Winners Announced online: June 1st The J.Y. Sanders Social Studies Scholarship, given in honor of former Louisiana Governor Jared Young Sanders, is aimed at empowering experienced social studies teachers. As such, the J.Y. Sanders Social Studies Scholarship can be applied to additional coursework and/or instructional materials for the recipient.  Attendance at the annual JY Sanders Conference is required. Click on the link below to view requirements prior to applying: Scholarship Eligibility & Guidelines  Deborah Nelson/Polly Broussard – Student Teacher Scholarships Award Amount: Up to $500 each Available To: Student Teachers Deadlines to Apply: March 15 for Spring / October 15 for Fall Winners Announced online: Apr. 1st/Nov. 1st These scholarships are given in honor of Polly Broussard and the late Deborah Nelson for their years of service and dedication to both the students of Louisiana and A+PEL. Polly Broussard was one of the original founders of A+PEL and also served as A+PEL’s Executive Director. Presently, Polly Broussard continues her service to A+PEL as Director of Legal Services.
