Mr. Turner’s Wellness Classroom Procedures

About Me I played football at Georgetown two different times; 1982-1983 and 1998-1999 I received degrees from Georgetown College and Asbury University This is my 15th year teaching; all at TPS I reside in Lexington I grew up in Jessamine County I have 7 sisters and 1 brother I excelled in sports throughout school I received a football scholarship to Georgetown College

My Kids I have two kids who both attend U of L They both received academic scholarships My son Devin, is 24 and is a graduate of UL. My daughter, Dominique is a 21 year old senior at UL.

Entering Classroom… Enter class on time, be prepared for class and have a seat If the door is closed you are tardy, bring a signed note from wherever you came (e.g. from principal or counselor). Enter class quietly, give me note, find a seat, get materials (folder, pencil, notebook, book) and start working. Write down the Learner Outcome/target and POD from board along with the admit slip or journal of the day

Discovery Skills Discovery skills will be used at all times When the instructor raises hand, you raise hand, get quiet, and face instructor When I’m talking or someone else has the floor talking, be respectful by giving your attending skills Ask questions to clarify and validate unclear information

Classroom Ambassador Quietly and appropriately greet guest Appropriately answer teacher phone Place student work in daily folder At “5 minute alert” Return student books and folders to shelf

Turning In Assignments When you finish an assignment, double check it for your “best” work Compare it to the rubric or check list Turn assignment over on desk Complete make-up work if needed Quietly assist shoulder buddy who is not finished Assignments will be graded and returned the next day

Class Work We will do group, individual, and whole class activities Use effective groups skills within group activities

Pencil or Restroom If your pencil breaks, “quietly” get up and get one from pencil box and return broken one to appropriate box If you “really” need to use the restroom, quietly bring PPTS to me Return from restroom quietly and get back to work

Class Work All works must be passed at mastery or approaching mastery (3 or 4). If assignment is not 3 or 4, it must be redone until it reaches mastery or approaching mastery 4 = Mastery 3 = Approaching mastery 2 = Partial mastery 1 = Very little mastery 0 = No mastery

Exiting the Classroom At 5 minutes before release, We will have a “5 minute alert” Answer “exit” slip CA will return your books and materials to correct place Get room in order Get signed process points sheet Wait at desk for release

Leaving Class Early If you have to leave class (bathroom, focus, sick, office, principal, etc) get your process points sheet signed Sign the sign in/out sheet and re-sign upon return If you are sick, I’ll call office and they’ll call back for you If it is something other, we’ll conference with you to solve the problem

FOCUS ROOM If you receive a FR from me, wait patiently and fill out “FR form” If FR is not available, we will conference to solve the problem If you request a VF, we’ll conference, if deemed appropriate, fill out FR form and I’ll contact FR for availability If not available we’ll conference to solve the problem

Safety Drills We take these drills seriously Fire Drill -Exit room quickly to Pavilion and gather at the back right corner where we’ll take attendance again Severe Weather/Tornado Drill -Quickly and quietly go to hallway -Get on knees, face wall , crouch down and cover head Lockdown Drill -Stay in class -Cut off lights -Sit quietly away from view of window -Wait for further instructions Lockout Drill -Lock door -Keep teaching

Leaving Classroom for PE Get classroom back in order, chairs pushed in and desks straight then exit room quietly and quickly Walk quietly down the right side of hallway and enter 1st set of gym doors Place belongings on stage and begin jogging/walking Form large circle for stretches Wait for instructions on activity for the day We will have a 10 minute alert to do a “closure” before leaving Wait on inside gym doors for dismissal Get signed process points sheet

Attending Skills Discovery skills still apply Dignity and Respect or sportsmanship must be displayed throughout PE STOP signal is the “whistle”

Participation You must participate in all activities, have fun, enjoy, learn about your body, and how to engage in healthy habits for life!

Gym Ambassador Quickly and appropriately greet guest Get equipment out and put away

Play Area No one is allowed on stage or in equipment room unless told! No playing on/in bleachers Play safe at all times Stay within playing area

Safety Drills Fire drill-exit the door to the left of the stage and quickly go to the pavilion to the back right corner Severe weather/tornado-against the stage or stairwell Lockdown-lock doors go into equipment room and stay quiet until further instruction Lockout-lock doors and continue teaching
