Candles

Here is a burning candle!

Here is an unlit candle. It is not burning.

A burning candle is a simple thing. It is just wax,

and a piece of string, called the wick, which burns

and fire!

Put wax, wick, and fire together, and you get a burning candle!

Candles are useful, because they give off light.

Candles can even light up a room, but they are not bright.

As candles burn, they melt. They get smaller and wax flows down.

Some candles are taller, and some are shorter.

Candles come in different colors Candles come in different colors. One of these candles is blue, and the other is yellow.

Here is a long row of white candles.

Look at these different colors!

Here is a place where people make new candles.

Here is some equipment people use to make long, tall candles, called tapers.

Candles are often used in churches.

These are called votive candles. People put them in churches.

People put candles on birthday cakes. One birthday candle for each year!
