Presentation transcript:

CCA Information Night The 4x4 Schedule, Academic Programs and Student Panel Presented by: CCA Counselors & CCA Seniors

CCA’s Academic Year Consists of TWO TERMS Each TERM, students complete 4 courses, each of which covers one full year of curriculum Fall Term Spring Term Course 1 Course 5 Course 2 Course 6 Course 3 Course 7 Course 4 Course 8

Each TERM consists of two “quarters” & each “quarter” is equivalent to a semester on a traditional schedule Fall Term Spring Term 1st Quarter 2nd Quarter 3rd Quarter 4th Quarter English 9 Integrated Math 1 Biology Drawing and Design Spanish I Spanish II Year-One PE Speech & Debate

Sample Schedule 1 English 9 30-60 minutes Integrated Math 1 Biology Fall Term Spring Term English 9 30-60 minutes Integrated Math 1 Biology 45 minutes Drawing and Design 0-30 minutes Spanish I 30 minutes Spanish II Year-One PE Speech & Debate Total 2 hours 45 minutes maximum 2 hours 30 minutes maximum

Sample Schedule 2 English 9 Honors 30-60 minutes Fall Term Spring Term English 9 Honors 30-60 minutes Integrated Math II Honors 60-90 minutes Integrated Math 1 Honors Drawing and Design 0-30 minutes Spanish I 30 minutes Spanish II Year-One PE Biology 45 minutes Total 3 hours 30 minutes maximum 3 hours 15 minutes maximum

4x4 Schedule Grading Students earn 2 final grades in each class taken per term. The 1st grade is equal to a fall semester grade and the 2nd grade is equal to a spring semester grade on a traditional schedule. 1st quarter FINAL GRADES 2nd quarter FINAL GRADES 3rd quarter FINAL GRADES The 3rd grade is equal to a fall semester grade and the 4th grade is equal to a spring semester grade on a traditional schedule. 4th quarter FINAL GRADES

Benefits and Challenges of the 4x4 Schedule Students have only 4 classes on which to focus. Students can “double up” in certain subject areas (e.g. take two World Language, Math, or Science classes in one year). Students can take numerous electives. Students have more schedule flexibility and can take “free periods” while still meeting college and graduation requirements. Course content moves at a rapid pace. Students sometimes choose too many demanding classes instead of exploring electives. Students will have “gaps” between sequential courses. If students are absent frequently, they will fall behind in their classes. Classes meet every day. If students do not do their homework, they fall behind quickly. Benefits Challenges
