English 3 Warm-ups

Monday, 9/11 Warm-up Pick up a copy of the vocabulary. On the front side, look over the vocabulary words and the correlating sentences. Beside the word write: “K” if you know the word and what it means “H” if you have hunch at what the word means “N” if you have NO idea Then, in the margin, write what you think the definition of the word is. On your warm-up sheet, write today’s date and vocabulary.

Tuesday, 9/12 Warm-up What is a difficulty or obstacle you hope to transcend this year? Write 2-3 complete sentences.

Wednesday, 9/13 Warm-up What are the three Rhetorical Appeals? Why are there different appeals? When would certain Rhetorical Appeals be more effective? Which Rhetorical Appeal resonates most with you? Write at least a complete sentence per question.

Thursday, 9/14 Warm-up Write one of the Rhetorical Devices we discussed yesterday in “Sinners”, and explain Edwards’ purpose in using it. 2-3 sentences.

Friday, 9/15 Warm-up Grab the handouts. On the Agree or Disagree, I need you to write your name and determine whether you agree or disagree with each statement.

Monday, 9/18 What encumbrances do you find most frustrating in life? Write 2-3 Sentences. Don’t forget that these are due Friday with your vocabulary homework!

Tuesday, 9/19 How can you determine the author’s tone in a piece of rhetoric? Write 2-3 sentences.

Wednesday, 9/20 Turn in your “Sinners” One Pager, “Sinners” Tone Analysis & “Letter” Packet before the bell rings. Be sure to have the heading on it! Friday, 9/22 Study your vocabulary. Be sure you have the in-class vocabulary notes, the vocabulary homework, and the warm-ups stapled together. You will have 5 minutes after the bell rings to study, and then you will turn the entire packet in. If any part of this packet is missing, you will need to sign the Homework Binder.
