Local Government GIS Operations CONFERENCE Local Government GIS Operations Impacts all Identified GIS Base Layers Original Source for Multiple Layers Affect Other Entity Operations How do we keep them up to date? COORDINATION, COLLABORATION & COOPORTION via DATA SHARING

Data Sharing Initatives CONFERENCE Data Sharing Initatives Most Localities are Agreeable to Data Sharing Amongst Entities Previously Listed Franklin Co: Gov, NPO, EDU = Free Some Counties are Completely Open Data Unfortunately Data Share Agreements are Different for Each Locality (due to different solicitors) DSAs Designed by Localities Typically Cannot be Legally Agreed Upon by State / Federal Entities

Data Sharing Initiatives CONFERENCE Data Sharing Initiatives No Agreeable & Unified DSA Exists! Being Researched by PEMA & PA Geoboard Work for all parties Allow two way data sharing With all faults – hold harmless clauses Understand working together helps get things done more effectively & efficiently Proving very difficult to accomplish Multiple levels of DSA to accommodate multiple viewpoints? Open Data wave of the future?

CONFERENCE Summary Local GIS Operations heavily influence decision making at all levels of government operations It is vital to promote coordination, collaboration, and cooperation for efficient GIS services Data Sharing must get more streamlined
