Literary Devices Basic Literary Element Review Literary Element Game Directions: On a piece of paper write the numbers 1 – 40 After each clip write the type of literary element is being represented Metaphor – saying something IS something else Simile – comparing two things that are different Hyperbole – exaggerated statements that shouldn’t be taken seriously Alliteration – the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words Personification – giving something human qualities Onomatopoeia – the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named (e.g., cuckoo, sizzle, bam!)
