Comparing Literature- Southpaw and Summer Diamond Girl Using the Venn diagram created on the iPad the students will use CloserReader to highlight text details in preparation for the comparison contrast essay question. Students will use the Venn diagram created in Task Card 2 on character traits for Toni and Janet to select text that supports their descriptions. The students will open their email and select the email from the teacher that contains the file. Hold your finger on the attachment then choose “Open in DeeperReader”. The app will open and the student will highlight with their finger by tapping and dragging and selecting highlight. When the highlighting is finished the student will select the tab on the left side that is labeled Reviews. The top box will l have all the text that was highlighted in it. In the second box the student can make an outline of their essay. The student should then select Final tab on the left hand side. When the essay is complete the student should tap the arrow in the top right hand corner. A box will pop up for the student to type their name and select ok. The email box will open where the student will fill in the boxes with their Mail ID, password, name, and class period. They will then select SEND. This task uses: Common Core/NG Standard(s): CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.1 Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.9.A Compare and contrast texts in different forms or genres (e.g., stories and poems; historical novels and fantasy stories) in terms of their approaches to similar themes and topics.
