Presentation transcript:

Thursday, March 2nd Hello, ladies and gentlemen. Today we will finish the march chapter of The Wednesday Wars. Tonight’s homework will be to complete the march section of your calendars For your Warm-Up, open your notebooks to the predictions that you made at the end of class yesterday. Also, retrieve a copy of The Wednesday Wars and turn to where we left off yesterday (170-171)

Today’s learning Targets I can identify the main events of the first part of the chapter Based off of what I read today, I can make realistic predictions for the rest of the chapter **I can make connections between the novel and its time period and my life and the current time period**

March (first half) events Holling has XC tryouts on the ides of march (the 15th) Mrs. Baker is getting observed Mr. Vendleri replaces the asbestos ceiling tiles and holling tries to help Mrs. Baker helps holling with his running and hollnig coaches her with her teaching Things are not going well in Vietnam Heather and Mr. Hoodhood fight about her working for Bobby Kennedy (who holling secretly wants to run for president Mrs. Baker is a silver medal winner

March (first half) events Mrs. Baker coaches holling on running (she is an Olympic silver medalist); Holling coaches mrs. Baker on teaching Vietnam is going terribly Mr. Vendleri replaced the asbestos tiles…no sign of the rats Tybalt is still MIA Holling is reading Julius Caesar March 15th (the ides of March)

March (first half) events Holling did not see Tybalt not tibble or tibal on the news Holling’s father and sister argued about bobby kennedy, martin luther king jr., and where she would work Mrs. Baker is getting observed by the school board Holling is reading Julius Caesar Mrs. Baker coaches holling with his running and holling returns the favor The old ceiling tiles were replaced by mr. Vendleri

March (first half) events Mr. Baker is still mia Mr. Vendleri replaces the ceiling asbestos tiles Holling is trying out for the XC team Holling is reading Julius Caesar (ides of march) Schoolboard is coming to observe mrs. Baker on ides of march Mrs. Baker coaches holling on running and he coaches her on teaching Holling the soothsayer?? Heather and mr. hoodhood argue over bobby Kennedy and MLK

March (first half) events Mrs. Baker coaches holling on his running, and holling coaches her on her teaching Mr. vendleri replaces the asbestos tiles Holling and his family and the entire town are watching the news, possibly for signs of Mr. Tybalt baker The ides of march (march 15th)= Holling’s XC tryout and mrs. Baker’s observation by the schoolboard Holling’s gym teacher/Coach eases up on him because of his improved performance Julius Caesar is being read

Second Half Predicitions Everything will go well on the ides or march or it won’t Tybalt baker KIA Holling will make the XC team but danny will not (thanks to mrs. Baker’s personal training) Mrs. Baker and holling’s relationship will continue to improve The ceiling is going to ruin the observation Mr. baker will be found (but Mrs. Bigio might be sad)

Second Half Predictions The XC tryouts are going to go terribly wrong Mrs. Baker will get news about her husband DEATH!! Holling gonna pop a hammy and both rats will die

Second Half Predictions The rats are going to die of starvation…dan thinks they’re already dead…dang dan Holling will make the XC team and become the best Mrs. Baker will do well in her observation The ides of march will spell doom for holling Sycorax and Caliban will fall from the new asbestos ceiling tiles (during evaluation/observation) Mrs. Baker’s emotions will show through during the observation, during which time she might learn her husband’s fate

Second Half Predictions Mrs. Baker will find out about her husband’s death on the ides of march (harsh) The rats will fall down, down, down during the schoolboard observation End of the chapter=good telegram (he lives) Holling will make the XC team Mrs. Baker will become one of the track coaches (XC)

Second Half Predictions Tybalt baker will be found alive Ides of march will not go well for our two main characters Sycorax and Caliban will be found Holling will trip and fall at tryouts The rats will appear during the schoolboard observation

While we read Every six minutes the tape will stop for one minute to allow you time to write down the events of the chapter…you may work with the people next to you. Stay in your seats. LT= Main Events

Closure on your index card, write down two Connections you can make to holling’s journey through seventh grade. One connection should be on an individual level, and one connection should be on a national level LT= Making connections
