MEANING OF EMPOWERMENT ????

EMPOWERMENT Empowerment is the process which enables one to gain power, authority and influence over others, institutions or society. Empowerment is probably the totality of the following: Having decision-making power of one’s own. Having access to information and resources for taking proper decision. Having positive thinking on the ability to make change. Ability to learn skills for improving one’s personal or group power.

WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT Women empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual , political, social or economic strength of women. This means that they have the ability to choose their own destiny, job, vote, and do anything a man can do.

PREVIOUS SCENARIO Since the ancient times when King’s were said to have as many as 200 wives, the social evils like sati, female infanticide, dowry and child marriage have been haunting the society.

PRESENT SCENARIO The Women’s Empowerment Principles were launched on 9 March 2010 in celebration of International Women's Day. The Women’s Empowerment Principles offer practical guidance to business and the private sector on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.

PRESENT SCENARIO Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality Treat all women fairly at work—respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women workers Promote education, training and professional development for women Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.

“Be the heroine of your life, not the victim.” ― Nora Ephron

NEED OF WOMEN EMPOWERMENT Women are the backbone of the society. If women are not empowered and developed up to the mark then the progress of the society will be hindered.
