Weather Fourth Grade MST Inquiry Unit Arianna Kirdahy & Jessica Martire

Motivation! Our new unit is all about making predictions and learning about weather! We are going to observe the weather conditions and identify how it may effect us! We are about to become meteorologists and learn everything there is to know about weather! Are you ready?

Scientific Inquiry: S4.2: Conduct scientific investigations using appropriate tools and techniques. S4.3: Identify patterns in data and/or relate patterns in data to theoretical models.

Some More Inquiry Skills We Will Use Communicating – Giving oral and written explanations or graphic representations of observations. Identifying Variables – Recognizing characters of objects or factors in events that are constant or change. Manipulating Materials – Handling and treating materials and equipment safely Observing – Becoming aware of an object an event by using any of the senses or extensions of the senses to identify properties Inferring – Drawing a conclusion based on prior experiences

Our Key Concepts (2.1a) Weather is the condition of the outside air at a particular moment. (2.1b) Weather can be described and measured by: temperature, wind speed and direction, form and amount of precipitation, general sky conditions (cloudy, sunny, partly cloudy). (3.1g) Some properties of an object are dependent on the conditions of the present surroundings in which the object exists. temperature: hot or cold, lighting: shadows, color, moisture: wet or dry.
