Y2Y Week: Engage the Community Meet with elected officials and prominent community members–your mayor, city council and law enforcement, first responders, and your local chamber of commerce. Share your story with them. Do they have experience with violence among young people? Invite them to participate in Y2Y Week and your peace march. Your staff will help! Research What violence-related issues has your community faced? What local organizations are working to address those issues?
Sept. 21: International Day of Peace
Plan Your Peace March
Plan Your Peace March Brainstorm ideas, staff supporters, and community partners. Select a location, like a public park or popular area, and plan your route. Talk with law enforcement, city council, or mayor’s office to find out if a permit is necessary – and invite them to participate! Ask your local officials to request a citywide proclamation for your event.
Promote Your Peace March Reach out to local organizations. Know your talking points. Invite the media. Hang fliers and posters in your community. Send pictures and video to JobCorpsY2Y@mpf.com.
Involve the Media
The Office of Public Affairs The Department of Labor Office of Public Affairs handles media inquiries for the Department of Labor and, in turn, Job Corps. “OPA” is here to help, and your Center Director will likely be checking in with them to provide an update on your Y2Y Week media plans.
