Youth Connexions in Sandringham School Nicky Honeywell October 2015

Education Act 2011 : CEG Schools to have statutory duty to secure independent careers guidance for pupils in Years 8-13* ‘careers guidance’ to be impartial and include information on all options in 16-18 learning and in the best interests of the pupils * implemented from Sept 2012 for years 9-11 with extension to years 8, 12 & 13 from Sept 2013

Careers guidance and inspiration in schools – Statutory Guidance for governing bodies, school leaders and schools staff- DfE April 2014 Schools must secure independent guidance that includes information on the full range of education and training options, including apprenticeships and vocational pathways. This should encompass good, appropriate local further education, apprenticeships, and vocational education opportunities. In good time before decision points schools should ensure that pupils are informed about the options available, including: Post-14: GCSEs; options offered by local university technical colleges and studio schools; opportunities for 14 year old enrolment at local colleges Post-16: A levels, advanced general qualifications, apprenticeships, employment combined with training, supported internships, tech levels and traineeships. Post-18: further education courses, higher apprenticeships, undergraduate degrees.

Ofsted School Inspection Handbook July 2014 Para154 - Quality of leadership will be judged amongst other criteria on the extent to which the school has developed and implemented a strategy for ensuring that all pupils in Years 8 to 13 receive effective careers guidance the impact of this guidance in helping young people to make informed choices about their next steps how well the school meets the needs of all vulnerable groups of pupils, including reducing the numbers who do not continue to education, employment or training how well the school works with families to support them in overcoming the cultural obstacles that often stand in the way of the most able pupils from deprived backgrounds attending university

Ofsted School Inspection Handbook July 2015 References are made to pupils being prepared or equipped for the next stage of their education, employment, self-employment or training and for their adult life receiving and using high quality careers guidance in ‘grade descriptors’ for personal development, behaviour and welfare outcomes for pupils effectiveness of the 16 to 19 study programme
