What is Health and Wellness? A combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being Physical – the condition of your body Mental/emotional – your thoughts, feelings, and emotions Social – the way you relate to others A state of well-being, or total health When do we achieve wellness? This is achieved when all three sides of your health triangle are equal 

The Health Triangle Health is the measure of our body’s efficiency and over-all well-being. The health triangle is a measure of the different aspects of health. So what are the 3 aspects of health again…?

3 Aspects of Health Physical Health Mental/Emotional Social

Elements of Physical Health Keep fit by getting regular exercise Eat a well balanced diet Maintain your ideal weight Practice good morning habits Avoid tobacco, alcohol, and drugs Get plenty of rest

Elements of Mental/Emotional Health Accept yourself and like who you are Express your feelings in a healthy way Develop your thinking and decision-making skills Strive to learn new information Learn ways of dealing with life’s problems Learn how to handle stress

What are the three sides of the health triangle? Exit Slip on index card What are the three sides of the health triangle? What do you do now and/or what can you do to improve each side of your Triangle? Place cards on desk near smart board

Dan’s Triangle Dan enjoys sports. He’s on the swim team and the track team. When he’s not at practice or competing, he likes to read sports magazines. He never seems to have enough time for his family and friends and is often too tired to do his homework. His grades are low, and he’s worried he’ll have to repeat a year.

Zoe’s Triangle Zoe is determined to get good grades-perhaps too determined. She studies hard most evenings and often spends time in the library on weekends. She takes little time out to see her friends. Lately, it seems, she doesn’t have any friends. She sometimes goes hiking with her family, but she gets no other exercise.

Kim’s Triangle Kim is one of the most popular girls in her class. She’s always arranging sleepovers and spends hours on the phone talking with her friends. She likes getting all the attention but notices that she’s often tired and grumpy. She always has to rely on last minute studying before a test.
