Lesson 13-4 Winning the War

How the War Ended The Russian Revolution of 1917 caused them to drop out of the war. Germany launched an offensive on the Western Front that got them within 50 miles of Paris by June 1918.

Americans helped stop the German offensive at Chateau-Thierry and Belleau Wood. Allies began a counterattack in July 1918. Americans won an impressive victory at St. Mihiel.

The Argonne Offensive in September 1918 was one of the costliest campaigns in American history but was successful. An armistice ended the fighting on 11/11/1918 at 11:00 a.m.

American War Heroes General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing was the commander of the American Expeditionary Force.

Eddie Rickenbacker shot down 26 enemy planes and became the “American ace of aces.”
