Horses and Gold Deuteronomy 17:16-19 – The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” …He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold. 18 When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law.. 19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees.

The Spiritual problem Psalm 20:6-7 – The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Isaiah 31:1 – Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.

Financial Decisions = Spiritual decisions DECIDE YOUR MASTER – No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money (Matthew 6:24). DECIDE TO TRUST – So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:31-33).

Solomon’s wisdom he ignored Those who love money are never content (Ecclesiastes 5:10; Hebrews 13:5). Luxuries are only good to look at (5:11). More material things means more burdens (5:12) and potential harm (5:13, 1 Timothy 6:6-10). Wealth is easily lost (5:14). Accumulated wealth is meaningless because you can’t take it with you (5:15).

Hebrews 13:5 –"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Accumulated wealth is meaningless because you can’t take wealth with you (5:15). 5:11 – As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?

Accumulated wealth is meaningless because you can’t take it with you (5:15). 5:12 – The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether they eat little or much, but as for the rich, their abundance permits them no sleep.

Accumulated wealth is meaningless because you can’t take it with you (5:15). 5:13 – I have seen a grievous evil…wealth hoarded to the harm of its owners. 1 Timothy 6:9-10 - Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires…. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Accumulated wealth is meaningless because you can’t take it with you (5:15). 5:14 …or wealth lost through some misfortune, so that when they have children there is nothing left for them to inherit.

Accumulated wealth is meaningless because you can’t take it with you (5:15). 5:15 – Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb, and as everyone comes, so they depart. They take nothing from their toil that they can carry in their hands. 16 This too is a grievous evil. 1 Timothy 6:7 – "For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it."

Financial Joy and Peace – Ecclesiastes 5:19-20 God alone gives wealth and possessions We are stewards of God’s material things God alone can give the ability to enjoy them. Accepting what God assigns = contentment Working happily = work hard willingly THEN, all our life God can satisfy us with joy and peace financially and emotionally.

The Manna Principles (exodus 16) Needs – God provides what I need. Greed –If I insist on more than God wants for me, my wealth will become worthless, meaningless and bitter. Wealth – When having more than I need accomplishes God's purposes he will give me more.
