What Is Personal Protective Equipment? PPE is all equipment (including clothing for the protection against the weather) which is intended to be worn or held by a person at work and which protects them against one or more risks to their health or safety Examples

PPE – The last Resort ERIC PD – Saves lives! ERIC PD – Saves Lives! There is a hierarchy of risk control, this is easy to remember, ERIC PD E – Eliminate R – Reduce I – Isolate C – Control P – Personal Protective Equipment D – Discipline ERIC PD – Saves lives!

Why Is The Use Of PPE important? PPE is the last resort in risk control It offers direct protection from hazards such as: Noise induced hearing loss Rough handling work Hazardous vapours Sharp objects Ejected objects Splashes into eyes Crush/impact The correct use of PPE will prevent you from incurring an injury

Examples of PPE Mandatory signs PPE Signage When you see a blue and white sign it is showing you that something is mandatory you must wear! Examples of PPE Mandatory signs

Use Of PPE To ensure that PPE is effective you must; Check the condition of it before each use to ensure that it is fit for purpose Always wear PPE specified in SOPP’s, Risk assessments and on local signage Wear PPE correctly – if you have not been trained in the use of the PPE do not carry out the operation and report to your line manager Ensure that multi – use PPE is clean and correctly stored after each use Report any defects with the PPE to your line manager straight away Ensure that the PPE use is suitable for task Co-operate with systems to maintain the effectiveness of PPE.
