Math 1316 Prof. Thomas Jay

Homework: Homework problems are designed to reinforce the lecture/reading. If you miss a class, you should attempt to do the assigned work missed before the next class. Homework is required and is 18.75% of the final grade. Homework is assigned in MyMathLab and is due one class after the test covering the material covered in the homework assignment. You may work on an assignment after the due date but there is a 5% penalty on work done after the due date.   Student Assessment: There will be 4 tests during the semester and a comprehensive final exam. There will be no makeup tests. The final exam grade will be used for a missed test grade. The top three test grades will be used for your test average. The semester grade will be determined as follows: 56.25% for tests, 18.75% for homework, and 25% for the final exam. Calculators: A calculator is required for this course. The calculator must be a scientific calculator with trig functions. A graphing calculator is recommended.

Resources: Free tutoring is available in the math tutoring center which is accessible through the open computer lab on the first floor. Students can get free assistance, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at hccs.upswing.io. Typically, posted questions are answered by an HCC tutor or faculty within 24 hours (usually under 6 hours). There are also several online math resources that you can find with an internet search. You may also find information on the Learning Web site accessible through your specific HCCS campus website. The math lab is also available for online help. MyMathLab also has several resources available to you.   Office Hours: My office is Katy 359 I. My office hours are: M - F 9:00 – 10:00
