Presentation transcript:

More people face famine today than at any time in modern history. Global Day of Prayer to End Famine Sunday 21 May 2017 More people face famine today than at any time in modern history.  Famine has been declared in areas of South Sudan. Parts of Somalia, Nigeria and Yemen are on the brink. More than 20 million people are at risk of starvation in these four countries alone. Globally, millions more suffer from the effects of drought and food shortages.

Global Day of Prayer to End Famine Sunday 21 May 2017 ‘Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?’ James 2:15,16 NIV

Food is more than a human right; Global Day of Prayer to End Famine Sunday 21 May 2017 Food is more than a human right; it is a divine gift that cannot be impeded.

Global Day of Prayer to End Famine Sunday 21 May 2017 Conflict blocks resources from where they are most needed – pray for peace. Families and children flee violence in search of safety, leaving their homes and livelihoods – pray for security. Millions of children are out of school due to conflict and drought – pray for access to education. Children caught up in famine face higher risk of early marriage, exploitation and abuse – pray for justice.

Global Day of Prayer to End Famine Sunday 21 May 2017 Pray for innovative schemes to help educate communities how to grow drought-resistant crops, such as this Salvation Army initiative in rural Kenya.

Global Day of Prayer to End Famine Sunday 21 May 2017 Ask God to protect and enable access routes for aid agencies to deliver emergency food supplies safely and promptly.

Global Day of Prayer to End Famine Sunday 21 May 2017 Pray for surveyors, engineers and workers as they seek to develop reliable, safe water supplies, by drilling boreholes and harnessing natural springs.

Global Day of Prayer to End Famine Sunday 21 May 2017 Pray for for meaningful, long-lasting partnerships between community members, local authorities, national governments, churches and non-profit organisations.
