General Meeting October 20th 2014

Entrepreneurship Opportunity We would like to draw your attention to a wonderful entrepreneurship opportunity - The Commons Launch - being offered to students from Marquette University and other universities in Southeast Wisconsin. Have you got an interest in entrepreneurship and corporate innovation? Are you interested in working in a team to learn about start-up companies and solve innovation challenges from local companies? Do you wish to get connected with some of the area’s top employers and take on real-world business challenges? Do you want to network with an elite group of mentors and corporate executives and also meet students from other college and universities in our region? If you have answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, The Commons Launch may be for you! Check out The Commons Launch website www.thecommonswi.com/launch!

College Delphi Founded by a group of college students from around the country, College Delphi is a platform that connects high school students & parents to current college students. Our goal is to facilitate meaningful conversations about college life, admissions, and more - after all, no one knows more about college than current students!  I was hoping you could forward this email to students in your organization who might be interested in working part-time at College Delphi (we pay college students up to $30 per hour just for talking - via phone or Skype - to prospective students and parents!)  Feel free to check us out at http://www.collegedelphi.com/students/jobs.  We look forward to hearing from you!  Lisa & Team College Delphi

Interested in forming a new Biodiesel Group! Hi all, I have worked with all of you on different projects in the past, but I am excited to propose one that would bring all of you together. Last week I found out that Loyola Chicago students founded a program in which they collect all the food oil waste on campus, convert it into biodiesel, and then use it to power their campus shuttles. It is an amazing initiative and something I think we could bring to campus. I reached out to Interim-Dean of the Opus College of Engineering Dr. Ropella and she thinks it is feasible and fundable through Dr. Lovell’s Innovation fund, but we need to identify a group of students willing to take this on. I do not have the expertise or the time to dedicate fully to this project, but I can coordinate the process to start it with administrators. You all lead organizations that have the skills, the passion, and the ability to make this a reality on Marquette’s campus. If this is something you think is worth pursuing, please reply all to this message. We can set up a time to meet and figure out how to get SEAC, Change Makers, and the Engineering Student Council involved in this. I am eager to hear your thoughts. Take care! Gas Day will bring it up along with other orgs, will send out an e-mail for people interested in it. Possible funding from gas companies, up to $30,000 funding! Need a core faculty member to help, or a large group of younger students. Possible senior design project?

Path to Olin Working to make this happen starting at the end of the semester into next year. Hope to have the path finished in the spring! Would like each org to make a stone. Must be in good standing with ESC We will be making this an event run by a few members. Anyone interested? Incentive to come to meetings. Maybe make the stones in the winter as a study break activity and then break ground in the spring.

ENGINEERING DAY (Tuesday, November 18th) NOT a WHOLE week! Just ONE day! Every organization must participate to maintain good standing. Have a morning treat alone with coffee for all engineers. This will run for 4 hours 8am-12pm. Run a professional Event at some point during the day. Run a philanthropy event for the day. Have a social activity in the afternoon/early evening. Have an event of their choice that they would like to come up with on their own. Goal is to get all of the orgs to talk to each other so that they can work together. Supposed to be fun, not a punishment. Can use ESC funding.

ENGINEERING DAY Only organizations that we have heard from A.O.E. BMES and EWB. A.O.E. & BMES= Breakfast/Snacks/Coffee We ask that your org come up with $10-20 each. We will fund the rest. Coffee will come from Lori in the Out reach office. Snacks can be what ever you want! Baked goods, doughnuts etc… EWB is looking for an organization to work with them on either… -Turkey art project -5K/Mile Race -Costume related activity -Soccer game ESC will fund to a certain amount. Contact Emilie if interested in helping. Coffee from Lori in outreach. ASCE can help EWB. Dress up as turkeys. ASME may also help. Triangle is planning on running a philanthropy event. Annex will be from 5-8 pm.

ANNEX DAY Tuesday, November 18th, 5 – 8 PM $5/person Includes bowling and food All 12 lanes reserved Interested in helping? Contact our VP of Student Affairs kelly.molinaro@marquette.edu Looking for volunteers and orgs. Will sell tickets the week before. Orgs that help may get a discounted price.
