Presentation transcript:

Dear Freud, my theory was way Better than yours :-P Erik Erikson Children love and want to be loved and they very much prefer the joy of accomplishment to the triumph of hateful failure. Do not mistake a child for his symptom. - Erikson By :Toni turner

Background check Born in June 15,1902 in Frankfurt am main, Germany 1930married the love of his life and had 3 children 1934 went to Harvard medical school so many other schools 1950 Published his 1st book called childhood and society where he published his famous 8 stages of life theory Died in may 12,1994 from cancer and other health issues Psychodynamic perspective --- The study of personality and behavior in terms of such processes. Erik Erikson was best known for the stages of psychological development and identity crisis. Doubt is the brother of shame - Erikson

What we need to know Erikson was best know for his 8 stages of life in human development (see it on the next slide so get ready to make a note chart on your book) Each stage has a conflict that has to be resolved by that person Freud’s theory, stages are tied to sexuality and drive expression. But unlike Freud Erikson’s theory, stages are tied to social and interpersonal tasks That each stage in Erikson stage has a “virtue” 1)Hope 2)will 3)purpose 4)competence 5) fidelity 6)Love 7) care 8)wisdom Genius as such can neither be explained nor treated away; only, at times, its delay and inhibition and its perversion to destructive or self-destructive ends. - Erikson

What we really need to know!!! stage name of stage age conflict event 1 oral sensory born to 18 months trust vs. mistrust feeding 2 muscular anal 18 months to 3 years old Autonomy vs. Shame/Doubt toilet training 3 locomotors 3 to 6 years old Initiative vs. Guilt independence 4 latency 6 to 12 years old Industry vs. Inferiority school 5 adolescences 12 to 18 years old Identity vs. Role confusion Peer relation-ships 6 young adulthood 19 to 40 years old Intimacy vs. Isolation Love relation-ships event 7 middle adulthood 40 to 65 years old Generatively vs. Stagnation parenting 8 maturity 65 to death Ego Integrity vs. Despair Reflection on and acceptance of one's life What we really need to know!!! Best known for the 8 stages of human development Healthy children will not fear life if their elders have integrity enough not to fear death.

The outcome of stages stages Outcome /example 1 Develops trust with the caregiver give them food and water and ect. failure = don’t provide needs child start mistrust 2 Develops sense of control over physical skills (walking) want more independence. Failure= feelings of shame and doubt 3 Develops power of control of environment. Failure= if given to much power they will feel guilty / experience disapproval 4 Cope with social and academic demands. Failure= feelings of inferiority 5 Develop a sense of who you are/ finding identity. failure= confusion of your identity 6 Filling loving relationship with people <3 . Failure = loneliness and isolation (living at home with 99 cats) 7 Need to nurture that will outlast you/ something that can be past down. Failure= shallow evolvement in world 8 Reviews life accomplishments/ feel needs of fulfillment. Failure= regret , bitter, despair

Random facts that are not fun The first four stages of Erikson development is about childhood His wife died 3 years later after him For his book Gandhi’s Truth, he won a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award He had an identity crisis when he came to the united states Erik does not know who his real father was (identity crisis) Erikson went to Harvard medical school and met Carol Gilligan (get low Mariah) Named the 1st stage oral because everything was put in the mouth (that’s what she said) Named the 2nd stage anal because……. (I think you know why) "The richest and fullest lives attempt to achieve an inner balance between three realms: work, love and play.“ - Erikson Babies control and bring up their families as much as they are controlled by them; in fact the family brings up baby by being brought up by him.

My opinion matters My option matter at least to me it does …… That Erikson was way more accurate when it came to the development stages because I believed that Erikson thought that life shouldn’t be rushed. That’s why when he looked at Freud development stages he knew that they had to be more. "Someday, maybe, there will exist a well-informed, well considered and yet fervent public conviction that the most deadly of all possible sins is the mutilation of a child’s spirit; for such mutilation undercuts the life principle of trust, without which every human act, may it feel ever so good and seem ever so right is prone to perversion by destructive forms of conscientiousness.“-- Erikson

Discussion question????? Which stage(s) in Erikson chart do you believe is accurate Do I deserve a 100  What was the most interesting or uninteresting part about Erikson Did this project help a lot ? What was your favorite quote??? Please do not ask me questions because I do not know the answer!!!! – Toni Turner
