Topic Homework – Kingston Quiz Did you know that Kingston-Upon-Thames is steeped in history? The town has existed since before the Saxon times and was actually the coronation place of seven of the country’s kings. The children have been learning about the Vikings and how they invaded and settled in England during the Anglo-Saxon times and there is evidence that Vikings were once in Kingston! Your children have been set the challenge of finding the following Anglo-Saxon landmarks in Kingston and answering questions on them; The Coronation Stone – what are the names of the seven kings that were coronated (pronounced king) in Kingston? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Why do you think Kingston was given its name? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ What are the names of the two kings that are shown in the pictures? (clue: you will find them in the market place – look high!) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Write down 3 facts about what the ancient market place was like: ______________________________________ What is the name of the Saxon church? How long has a church been standing on this spot? ______________________________________________ Can you find this plaque? (clue: it’s not in the market place) What does it show? Why do you think its here and not in the market place? ________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ Challenge: ANSWERS BACK BY FRIDAY 24th MARCH – PLEASE HAND IN TO YOUR CLASS TEACHER PRIZES FOR BEST ANSWERS TO BE PRESENTED ON THE LAST DAY OF TERM (30.3.17)
